Life Event - Return to Work After Retirement

When you retire from the Electrical Industry, you may work in other industries and continue to receive your Pension; however, your monthly benefits from the Plan will be suspended if you return to work in the Electrical Industry, except for certain very limited exceptions. If you are considering returning to work, review carefully the information on this page and in the SPD in order to make sure you comply with the notification requirements and understand the financial ramifications of your actions.

Plan Checklist

  • If you work after retirement, your pension will be suspended if you return to any work in the Electrical Industry in the United States before your Normal Retirement Age (age 65).
  • After your Normal Retirement Age, your Pension will be suspended if you return to work in the Electrical Industry for 40 or more hours in a month anywhere within the ten counties comprising the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Once retirement benefits commence, you must notify the Plan Office in writing within 15 days of accepting work in the Electrical Industry. Additional months of suspension of benefits may apply if you fail to properly notify the Plan Office.
  • If you are retired and your benefits have been suspended, be sure to notify the Plan Office in writing when you terminate Suspendible Employment in order to resume your benefit payments as soon as possible.
